Dear Reader,
For business families, Emotional Intelligence (EQ) is one of the key ingredients to keep family relationships harmonious and build strong bonds among cousins’ consortiums. In my long-tenured experience of working with families-in-business, I have observed many families harness the power of EQ leading to cohesive teams of family members and continuous growth.
EQ is one’s ability to understand and manage own emotions as well as recognize the emotions of others. It is being aware of our feelings as well as of those around us, an essential skill for leaders.
While talking to a father, he expressed his concern over the emotional intelligence of his son who had taken over the day-to-day operations. “I used to treat my employees as family members. He treats them like machines that either get work done or not. I think he lacks empathy and people do not like his leadership style.”
Here comes the question. Do we know what is emotional intelligence? Can we practice it in our business? How does it affect our leadership skills? Here are interesting articles on the subject.
